Yucca Valley 34, Village Christian 13--Josh Payseno rushed for 134 yards in 22 carries and scored four touchdowns as host Yucca Valley ended Village Christian’s season.
Payseno scored on runs of six, six, four and two yards as the Trojans (8-3-1) rushed for 342 yards. Derrick Tarrant added 156 yards in seven carries.
Village Christian quarterback Mike Spielman completed nine of 22 passes for 104 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Jacob Funk led the team with 41 yards in 11 carries. The Crusaders (7-4) had 83 yards rushing.
After leading 12-7 at halftime, Yucca Valley scored 15 unanswered points in the third quarter to clinch the victory. Both touchdowns came on Payseno runs.
Village Christian’s first score came in the second quarter on Spielman’s two-yard run. Spielman had set up the score when he recovered a Yucca Valley fumble at the Trojan 20.
Spielman accounted for the team’s other touchdown, hitting Tony Yousif with a 16-yard pass in the fourth quarter.
