OUTLOOK
With three returning starters, including Zeigler, who led county scorers with 27.3 points per game, and a gym they can call home, University should be the most improved team in the league. The backcourt of Zeigler and Amiri will be the Trojans’ strength. Dinneen said Amiri took it personally last year when teams double-teamed Zeigler; after an off-season spent honing his offensive skills, Amiri is prepared to make opposing teams pay. Abai and McKee, who was MVP of the sophomore team last year, give University even more backcourt scoring and depth, which helps soften the loss of Robert Luna, who moved to Alabama after averaging 15 points per game last year. Cheung will provide offense from the post position, and Sibersky is a good shot-blocker. A new on-campus gym means the Trojans won’t have to rise at 5 a.m. for practice anymore, and Dinneen said it is put-up-or-shut-up time. “I think we can be right up there, we’ve just got to go out and do it. This can be a very good team. We just have to learn how to win consistently.” University must learn how to win the close ones; last year, they lost seven league games by six or fewer points.
