Newhall Man Dies as Pickup Hits Truck
CANYON COUNTRY — A 27-year-old Newhall man was killed when his pickup truck rammed the back of a tractor-trailer truck stopped at a traffic light, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said Thursday.
The man, whose name was not made public pending notification of relatives, was driving north on Sierra Highway about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday when he sideswiped a car near Jake’s Way, authorities said. Seconds later, he smashed into the bigger truck, which was stopped at Sierra Highway and Soledad Canyon Road.
He died at the scene.
It was unclear why the man was driving erratically, authorities said, but an autopsy was scheduled for late Thursday to determine if he was intoxicated.
