Law: A major shake-up in Hollywood’s entertainment law business could take place as early as next week. From nine to 20 lawyers are said to be in discussions to leave the Beverly Hills law firm of Cooper, Epstein & Hurewitz for the politically connected Westside powerhouse Manatt, Phelps & Phillips. Talks were originally expected to conclude this week. Among the lawyers sources listed as likely to make the jump to the Manatt firm are Jay Cooper, Gerald Margolis and Alan Schwartz. The defections would be another big boost for the Manatt firm, which recently lured a group of lawyers from Arter, Hadden, Lawler, Felix & Hall to form an intellectual-property department that will work on the legal issues stemming from the blending of entertainment and technology.
