Lousy Taste Isn’t Just for Celebs Anymore

Re “In Your Face With Lousy Taste” (Oct. 21): Taste? Is there any left in this country? I have to say that I agree our country has little taste left, but our problem is not the Friars Club or Ted Danson. It is the common people.

As a 17-year-old senior at Chatsworth High, I see about as much taste on campus as there is in rice cakes. I see the way most teen-agers dress and I wonder about our country. I don’t understand what is so cool about wearing jeans at your knees that are as wide as the sidewalk. Even though the rappers look great in saggy clothes, does every teen-ager in America have to dress like them?

It is time to stop blaming the celebs and start blaming ourselves. Starting at clothes and earrings, parents have to stop letting their kids run wild. Taste begins in the home. If kids are taught to have manners and respect their parents at an early age, then control will occur. Until then, I am fearful about where our country is headed, but I don’t blame Beavis and Butt-head. I blame moms and dads.

I applaud your article about lousy taste and would add to the list the Oscar-winning movie “Unforgiven.”

In my opinion, Clint Eastwood could have told a wonderful story without the vulgar outhouse/whorehouse language.

I was astounded to read the article “In Your Face With Lousy Taste.” I found it hard to believe your outrageously liberal newspaper would print such a fine article. In a society that applauds vulgarity, it relieves me to find out that there are still some people out there who appreciate good taste.
