OUTLOOK

The Hawks are young, but have skills that could help make up for inexperience. “We’re quicker and faster than in previous years,” said Taylor, entering his second year at Laguna Hills. “That gives us the potential to expand our defense from half court to full court.” Defense may have to be Laguna Hills’ strength, because Taylor says shooting is still a problem. “That means scoring points will be our major problem again,” Taylor said. But the offensive news isn’t all bad for the Hawks. Christensen, an honorable mention all-league selection last year, is back to run the offense and with 6-foot-5 Haneef, the Hawks have potential for inside scoring. Taylor says Haneef is athletic and will be a defensive force. “She’s going to cause matchup problems for everyone,” Taylor said. Galeener is also expected to provide inside scoring. Like the rest of the league coaches, Taylor expects Estancia and Costa Mesa to battle for the title. He gives an edge to Estancia if the Eagles can score consistently from the perimeter. “We’ll probably be inconsistent with our youth, but we could make things interesting with our matchup problems and our quickness,” Taylor said. The Hawks have eight underclassmen on their roster.
