Monterey Park : Meeting on Landfill Study
Federal environmental officials are hosting a community meeting Tuesday to discuss the results of an air sampling program conducted in residential areas around the former Monterey Park landfill run by Operating Industries Inc.
Investigators from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency sampled air in 197 Montebello homes from November, 1992, to July, 1993, and concluded that gas seeping from the landfill was entering a few of the residences. After detecting the gas, the EPA installed devices to keep it from entering the houses.
Also at the meeting, federal officials will detail the overall cleanup activities at the former landfill site. The 7 p.m. meeting will be at the Schurr High School cafeteria, 820 N. Wilcox Ave., Montebello.
