COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Gehlke Leads Golden West Past Rio Hondo
Becki Gehlke had 14 kills and eight digs as Golden West rolled past Rio Hondo in three games in the first round of the Southern California women’s volleyball playoffs Tuesday at Golden West.
Jaimie Torromeo served 10 consecutive points as Golden West, the state’s No. 1 ranked team, won, 15-5, 15-4, 15-7. Golden West advances to play Antelope Valley Tuesday in the second round. Antelope Valley beat San Diego Mesa in five games to advance.

In other Southern California playoffs:
Grossmont 3, Saddleback 1--Yumi Yamazaki had 12 kills for visiting Saddleback, which lost, 11-15, 15-2, 15-7, 15-5. Nicki Cando had 10 kills for Grossmont (14-4).
Saddleback, the second-place team from the Orange Empire Conference, closed with a 14-6 record.

Cuesta 3, Fullerton 1--Visiting Fullerton lost, 15-3, 15-12, 13-15, 15-5. Cuesta is 21-3 and Fullerton ended the season at 9-10.

In the Southern California men’s soccer playoffs:
Irvine Valley 7, Moorpark 0--Luis Ramos scored on two penalty kicks in the first half for host Irvine Valley (16-3-4).
George Larsen, Jeff Rynders, Frank Pace, Tony Guinane and Darin Taylor also scored for the Lasers.

East Los Angeles 5, Orange Coast 4--Martin Holmqvist scored twice for visiting Orange Coast (11-4-6). East Los Angeles (20-1-2) scored five times in the second half, including twice in the final 10 minutes.
