Van Nuys residents will have an opportunity to meet with the Valley’s new top cop, Deputy Chief Martin Pomeroy, and City Councilman Marvin Braude at the quarterly meeting of the Van Nuys Homewners Assn. on Tuesday.

The free meeting, to be held at 7 p.m. at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, 15520 Sherman Way, will allow residents the chance to question Pomeroy about crime, graffiti, prostitution and neighborhood improvement.

“Because of what we see as increasing crime in the streets, to have the top cop in the Valley and the councilman who deals with public safety, I think it’s a good combination,” said Don Schultz, president of the homeowners group.

Pomeroy, 47, is replacing Deputy Chief Mark A. Kroeker, who served 2 1/2 years as the Valley’s top cop before being reassigned to South-Central Los Angeles. Pomeroy is a 24-year veteran of the LAPD and is a former administrator in the department’s Employee Relations Division. The unique get-acquainted session also marks the first time that Braude will address the homeowners group since he began representing a large portion of Van Nuys after redistricting in 1992.

Braude also chairs the Public Safety Committee of the Los Angeles City Council, which deals with police issues.
