Stacy Laitsch
Los Alamitos, Jr.
Volleyball / Middle blocker
Los Alamitos advanced to its first Southern Section girls’ volleyball title match and won largely because of clutch play by Laitsch. She had 20 kills in a five-game victory over Long Beach Millikan in the Division II quarterfinals and 21 as the Griffins rallied from two games down to defeat Huntington Beach in the semifinals. Then, in Los Alamitos’ four-game victory over Fountain Valley in the title match, she had 18 kills, including six in a row, to bring her team back from a 12-7 deficit in the third game.
Other notables:
* Jenny Gonzalez, Valencia, won all her singles sets as Valencia beat Santa Ynez, 10-8, and Chadwick, 9-9 (72-71 in games), in Division IV tennis.
* Dresden Howell and Tracy Clark, Corona del Mar, finished first and second in 19:03 and 19:06 to lead the Sea Kings to the III-A cross-country title.
* Lindsay Olson and Vanessa Godbey, Newport Harbor, swept their doubles sets in Division I victories over Camarillo and Santa Barbara San Marcos.
* Jennifer Stroffe, Corona del Mar, had 21 kills in a four-game victory over Newport Harbor in the Division I volleyball championship.
