Improvements to Peak Park Planned
BUENA PARK — One of the city’s most popular parks is getting a face lift.
A new basketball court, a gazebo for picnickers, parking and renovations to the swimming pool are planned for Peak Park.
The park is the beneficiary of $217,000 in state park grant funds that the city was allocated but did not spend in the last fiscal year. Wes Morgan, the director of recreation, parks and community services, said the city has received a one-year extension of the grant and will be able to spend the money improving Peak Park.
The City Council last week approved hiring Walden & Associates for $19,450 to draw the designs for the park improvements.
Morgan said the remainder of the grant money will be used for construction costs. Park improvements include a 100-space parking lot on the east side of the park along El Monte Drive, a gazebo in front of the play area for toddlers and a basketball court. The swimming pool, used for summer aquatic programs, will be resurfaced.
Because the pool is a part of the Recreation Department’s summer program, efforts will be made to do the repairs by the start of the season, Morgan said.
Morgan said park improvements are expected to be completed by the third week of June.
