Man Hit in Gunfight Dies of His Injuries
ANAHEIM — A man wounded in a gun battle earlier this week has died of his injuries, police said Thursday.
Efran Caldera, 18, of Anaheim was shot several times in the stomach and was found in the street in front of an apartment complex in the 500 block of North Anna Street on Wednesday. Gunfire had erupted inside one of the apartments just before noon, then spilled out to the street, police said.
Caldera was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he died late Wednesday night, police said.
Also wounded in the shooting was Abelardo Gomez-Peneda, 22, of Anaheim. He was found in the courtyard of the apartment complex with a gun in his hand, police said. He had also been shot several times in the stomach and was taken to UCI Medical Center. Hospital officials refused to disclose his condition.
No arrests have been made in the shootings, but witnesses told police they saw several men running from the apartment.
