OUTLOOK
Returning no starters and only four members from last year’s fourth-place squad won’t help the Griffins move up in the league race. This year’s team should dominate opponents inside, with three players taller than 5-10, including Fulp, who averaged 5.5 rebounds in only 12 minutes per game. Also returning is Reyes, an all-league honorable mention selection at point guard. Reyes and Williams are two of the top defensive guards in the league and will be in the same backcourt after alternating last season. The young Griffins will have problems handling the ball and shooting from the perimeter, however. Ford said their ability to handle the full-court press is also a potential weakness, and believes they will need to score off their defensive play and in the post to be their most effective. The Griffins look to get a boost from Gray, last year’s most valuable player on the junior varsity, who averaged 13 points, and the sophomore twin towers of Nichols and Katie Ensley. They gain more height with the addition of Amy Ensley, freshman sister of Katie. Ford favors Cypress as the league favorite, followed by Katella, El Dorado and the Griffins.
