OUTLOOK
The Saxons can only improve on last year’s two-victory season. Hsu, an honorable-mention selection last season at point guard, returns to the off-guard spot this time around, making room for newcomer Flores. Kim also returns to a crowded backcourt, along with Nakazono and McNeal. Loara’s offense will be focused on the inside play of the front line. Joosten returns in the middle and will be complemented by a couple of 5-10 players in Glenn and Allen. One problem facing Peabody is youth. Though the Saxons have four seniors on their roster, many have played together only one season. The newcomers include three sophomores, up from last year’s junior varsity squad, all of whom are expected to contribute heavily. Peabody says defense will be the building block for a successful season, along with the girls’ knowledge of the game. “Last year, we scrambled to put the program together,” he said. “Now, we have a lot of smart girls who know the game better.” Perimeter shooting could be suspect, but experience, along with team speed should help to produce immediate dividends.
