NHL ROUNDUP : Flames’ Onslaught Overpowers Jets
On a night that featured the debut of replacement referees and linesmen, the Calgary Flames scored five unanswered goals in the second period, two of them shorthanded by Gary Roberts and Paul Ranheim, en route to a 7-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Monday at Calgary.
The Flames extended their win streak to five games and maintained their status atop the league’s overall standings with 30 points.
Montreal 4, Ottawa 2--Eric Desjardins scored on a power play midway through the third period at Ottawa, helping the Canadiens end a three-game losing streak.
Edmonton 5, Toronto 5--The Maple Leafs salvaged the tie at Toronto when Chris Govedaris scored on a breakaway at 13:38 of the third period. Shayne Corson scored three goals for the Oilers.
