Matadors Land a Recruit, Lose Another
Cal State Northridge won a recruiting battle and lost another Monday as the NCAA’s early signing period continued.
David Stevenson, a first baseman and outfielder from Chatsworth High and Valley College, signed a letter of intent Monday with Cal State Long Beach.
Stevenson had been offered a full scholarship by Cal State Northridge. Stevenson (6-foot-3, 200 pounds) was an All-City and Times All-Valley selection as a senior at Chatsworth High School in 1992.
Stevenson, who will play in the spring at Valley, is expected to battle former Kennedy first baseman Jeff Tagliaferri for the starting nod at Long Beach.
The Cal State Northridge women’s basketball team announced Monday that Kelly Morris of Diamond Bar High signed a letter of intent with the school.
Morris, a 6-1 center-forward, averaged 15.1 points and 11.5 rebounds a game last season and is the first recruit signed by the Matadors for the 1994-95 season.
