Software Supplier Alpharel Posts Loss for 3rd Quarter
Alpharel Inc. posted a third-quarter net loss of $8.4 million, mostly because of onetime charges incurred in the three months that ended Sept. 30.
The Camarillo supplier of software for managing documents said it took a $4.9-million charge in the latest quarter for purchased research and development and a $3.4-million charge relating to its acquisition of Optigraphics Corp. The latter was primarily a write-down of certain intangible assets and inventory, plus consolidation costs, Alpharel said.
The loss contrasts with a $33,000 profit in the same quarter a year ago. Revenue in the latest quarter fell 4% to $1.7 million, from $1.8 million.
For the nine months, Alpharel posted a net loss of $7.9 million, contrasted with a $155,000 profit a year earlier. Revenue climbed 16% to $5.4 million from $4.6 million.
