South Gate Beats Carson for 1st City Tennis Title
With both teams watching nervously, South Gate senior Aida Orejel defeated Carson junior Merry Arrongante, 6-4, 6-4, to clinch the City Section 3-A girls’ team tennis championship, 4-3, Thursday at the Racquet Centre in Studio City.
“I was thinking, ‘I can’t lose,’ ” a relieved Orejel said.
Orejel, who trailed 1-4 in the first set and 1-2 in the second, propelled the Rams (15-0) to their first City title.
The Rams swept all singles matches as Roxana Vidaurre, Linda Hong and Nadia Arviso each won in straight sets.
