Keijuan Douglas threw two touchdown passes to Jaime Cerna--including a 13-yarder with 33 seconds left--to give Poly High a 14-12 victory over Canoga Park in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game Friday night at Canoga Park.
The win, coupled with Grant’s 39-6 loss to Birmingham, clinched the Mid-Valley League title for Poly (4-6, 4-3 in league play).
Canoga Park (2-7-1, 2-4-1) took a 12-7 lead with 4 minutes 47 seconds left when Mario Arce (78 yards in 16 carries) scored on a two-yard run.
Poly countered with a 68-yard march in 12 plays, capped by the Douglas-to-Cerna scoring play. Canoga Park then drove to Poly’s 38-yard line, but Cerna intercepted John Carlsen’s desperation pass at the two-yard line as time expired.
Douglas completed six of nine passes for 58 yards and Cerna had all six receptions. Douglas also gained 94 yards in 16 carries, and Gerrod Taylor added 92 yards in 15 carries.
