COLLEGE FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : USC : Who Will Kick Saturday?

Mike Salmon’s Achilles’ tendon injury presents USC Coach John Robinson with two problems in Saturday’s game against Washington at Seattle.

Salmon, a senior safety, has also been the Trojans’ kicker since Cole Ford injured his back in the season’s third week. Ford is kicking in practice this week for the first time since, but Salmon can barely kick at all.

Ford, a junior, has a redshirt year coming and would qualify this season.

But what if Salmon can’t kick Saturday?

“Then we’d use Martin Boskovich if we needed a field goal,” Robinson said Wednesday, referring to the team’s backup punter.

Problem there, too. Boskovich has a strained hip and won’t be able to kick until today.

“I want Cole to kick another week in practice before we’d use him in a game,” Robinson said. “If he has a good week next week, we’ll use him if we have to against UCLA.”

Said Ford: “If Coach sends me in to kick, I’ll kick.”

Meanwhile, Salmon pegged his chances of playing Saturday as about even.
