LOS ANGELES : Braude Calls for Attack on Ownership, Use of Guns
- Share via
Los Angeles City Councilman Marvin Braude on Tuesday called for a “broad-range” attack on the widespread ownership and use of guns--saying he will push for local, state and federal legislation to prevent gun violence.
Braude said he does not have specific proposals yet for stemming the proliferation of guns, but that he will convene a series of hearings beginning next month to discuss the matter.
The councilman conceded that he will have a difficult time overcoming opposition. “This is something that will take four or six or maybe even 10 years. But I think we have to start moving,” he said.
Five other lawmakers apparently shared that sentiment. Council members Jackie Goldberg, Rita Walters, Mark Ridley-Thomas, Ruth Galanter and Laura Chick seconded Braude’s proposal.
