Ameron to Cut 300 Jobs: The Pasadena-based engineering and construction company said it will cut 20% of its work force, and take a fourth-quarter charge of $31 million as part of a restructuring. Ameron said it also will merge manufacturing and distribution facilities, sell unprofitable operations and set up reserves associated with environmental and legal matters. While the charge is expected to result in a loss for fiscal 1993 ending Nov. 30, the company expects earnings before the charge and other items to exceed the $5.9 million, or $1.53 a share, in net income the company earned in fiscal 1992. On the New York Stock Exchange, Ameron rose 37.5 cents to $36.25. Ameron makes protective coating, lighting poles, fiberglass pipe and concrete and steel pipe.
