COSTA MESA — A 24-year-old man was arrested early Saturday after a woman accused him of trying to rape her in a commercial area alley, police said.
About 2 a.m., officers heard a woman screaming at Pomona Avenue and West 19th Street, and saw a woman and a man standing by some bushes, Lt. Dennis Cost said.
When the man saw the police cars, he ran and hid in nearby shrubs. Officers struggled with him briefly before taking him into custody and booking him into the city jail, Cost said.
Jaime Gonzalez of Costa Mesa was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail on suspicion of attempted rape, police said.
