Matt Brady kicked a 38-yard field goal with 10 seconds left in the game, allowing Villa Park to escape with a 17-15 victory over Orange in Century League play Friday night at El Modena High School.

Orange (2-7, 0-4 in league) had taken a 15-14 lead with 4:36 remaining in the fourth quarter on quarterback Andy Lauridsen’s one-yard touchdown run and Jamie Worthem’s two-point conversion run around left end.

As usual, Villa Park (6-3, 3-1) went to running back Grant Pearsall in the clutch. Pearsall, who led the Villa Park offense with 133 yards in 25 carries and four receptions for 54 yards, ran the ball eight times for 50 yards and caught a six-yard screen pass during the Spartans’ drive. Pearsall also made a three-yard gain on a fourth-and-two situation.

Brady, who had squibbed a 27-yard field-goal attempt in the first quarter, then drilled the ball through the uprights.

Pearsall provided both of Villa Park’s touchdowns with a 22-yard reception from quarterback Sean McMahon with eight seconds left in the first half and a three-yard, fourth-quarter run that capped an 85-yard drive.

Orange took a 7-0 lead in the second quarter on an 80-yard drive. Worthem capped the drive byscoring from the one with 5:34 left in the half.
