Valencia, the two-time defending Division VI champion, is led by Rob Petko, the county’s fourth-ranked quarterback, and running back/linebacker Chris Draft.

Brandon Brennan, the county’s No. 1 quarterback for most of the season, leads Western. Brennan’s favorite receiver is Josh Christensen.

Despite the Pioneers’ 10-7 loss to Anaheim Friday night, the winner of next week’s game will claim the league title.

ON THE RECORD

“That shouldn’t even have been printed. . . . You’re going to get someone hurt. You’ll start a riot. To keep playing it up was irresponsible at the high school level. But you won’t see that quote in the paper. And you can quote me on that.”

--Myron Miller, Costa Mesa coach, talking about The Times’ use of Dewayne Crenshaw’s “We own Century” quote three times in the past week, after his team’s 7-7 tie with the Centurions.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME

There has been no place to call home in the Freeway League this season; all six teams have lost their home-coming games. Sunny Hills was the final victim, losing to Sonora, 21-20, in front of 1,800 Friday night.
