COLLEGE FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : UCLA : Nguyen Is the Forgotten Man
Mike Nguyen acknowledges that the season hasn’t gone the way he had planned, but he doesn’t brood about it.
Nguyen, a junior wide receiver, has become the forgotten man in UCLA’s passing offense, behind J.J. Stokes and Kevin Jordan, who have all 16 of the Bruins’ touchdown receptions.
In three seasons, Nguyen has caught 42 passes, but none for a touchdown.
Running short and sideline routes and leaving the deep balls to Stokes and Jordan, Nguyen has 14 catches this season, averaging 11.9 yards a catch but catching nothing longer than 19 yards.
He also has dropped some passes, including one in the Arizona game last Saturday.
“I’m probably not playing as well as I have in the past, but it doesn’t really matter to me because I’m still out there contributing and we’re winning,” Nguyen said.
