COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Golden West Women Sweep Past Saddleback

Becki Gehlke and Becca Foltz each had nine kills to lead Golden West to a three-game sweep of host Saddleback in an Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball match Wednesday.

The Rustlers (14-0, 8-0), the top-ranked team in the state, won, 15-8, 15-4, 15-5. Kelly Gallup had six kills for Saddleback (9-3, 5-2).

In other Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball:

Fullerton 3, Rancho Santiago 0--Lori Fuller had 11 kills to lead Fullerton (6-7, 3-5) to a 15-11, 16-14, 15-7 victory over Rancho Santiago (4-8, 2-6).

Riverside 3, Orange Coast 1--Elizabeth Cherry and Heather Perrin each had 13 kills to lead visiting Riverside (13-4, 6-2) to a 13-15, 15-9, 15-8, 15-13 victory. Beverly Thackeray had 11 kills for Orange Coast (4-6, 3-5).

In Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer:

Orange Coast 4, Palomar 1--Jenna Biefeld scored two goals and Danae Fielder and Jennifer Crispin each scored one for visiting Orange Coast (11-6-1, 5-2-1), which remained in second place.

In Western State Conference wrestling:

Cuesta 35, Cypress 13--Cuesta (4-0, 3-0) remained undefeated by winning at Cypress. Jerry Goodspeed beat Matt Bywater, 11-5; Jeremy James beat Ryan Murphy, 10-7; Reza Khayat beat Tim Partee, 14-4, and Tom Willey beat Jaime Garcia, 9-3, for Cypress’ only victories.
