OXNARD : City OKs Plan for Homes Near Airport

More than 200 homes were approved for construction near the Oxnard Airport by the City Council, despite complaints from airport officials that the projects were too close to flight paths.

The council voted unanimously late Tuesday to allow Laguna Pacific Development of Montecito to build 216 homes on about 80 acres south of 5th Street and east of Patterson Road.

City planners recommended the Patterson Park project be approved, saying the proposed subdivision is congruent with the city’s General Plan.

But Airport Administrator Marshall MacKinen argued at the public hearing Tuesday night that the homes were too close to the flight paths around the Oxnard Airport.

Under terms of the agreement, about 25 acres of the project would be set aside for development as a community park.
