Longtime Baseball Writer Bob Hunter Dies at 80

Bob Hunter, 80, a longtime baseball writer for the Los Angeles Examiner and Herald Examiner and a member of the writers’ wing in the Baseball Hall of Fame, died Thursday night at Sherman Oaks Convalescent Hospital.

Hunter, who wrote a column for the Daily News from 1977 until his retirement in May of 1992, began his newspaper career in the late 1930s at the Post Record, then became the baseball writer for the Examiner, later the Herald-Examiner. Hunter was a sportswriter for 58 years.

Hunter is survived by his widow, Coy, of Encino, three sons, Todd of Costa Mesa, Bill of Sherman Oaks and Bob Jr., of South Pasadena, and a daughter, Patty Joy, of Santa Cruz.
