Police preparing to file a manslaughter charge against a Sun Valley man, whose milk truck crashed into a vehicle and killed a driver, discovered that he died from a shooting more than a week ago, authorities said.
Ricardo Rodriguez Ruiz, 22, was shot several times in the torso by an unknown gunman Sept. 26 when he sat in a Ford Probe at a Jack In The Box restaurant in Sun Valley, said Los Angeles Police Detective Mike Coffey.
Ruiz was taken to a nearby hospital, where he remained in a coma for three days before being pronounced dead Sept. 29, Coffey said. Police are investigating the death as a homicide.
Thirteen days before, Rodriguez’s overweight milk truck was believed to have been responsible for causing a crash that killed 25-year-old Michelle Dubuc Harris of Glendale, said Glendale Officer Charles Follett.
“We were all prepared to file a manslaughter charge on him,” Follett said.
