SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — A Laguna Niguel woman was in critical condition after an early morning head-on collision Tuesday on Ortega Highway, highway officials said.
Mathew Philip Wilson, 19, of Riverside was driving west about 6:35 a.m. when he tried to pass traffic by going into the eastbound lane, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Mort Opittek. His vehicle collided head-on with another driven by Wendy Mae Sellge, 52, of Laguna Niguel.
Sellge suffered cuts, a fractured spleen and a broken thigh bone. Wilson suffered moderate injuries, Opittek said.
No citations were issued pending an investigation, CHP authorities said.
