Court to Hear Appeal of 1991 Keating Case: The California Supreme Court decided to review the California securities fraud case of financier Charles H. Keating Jr., who was convicted of related charges in federal court. The court voted unanimously to grant a hearing on an appeal by Keating, whose management of the collapsed Lincoln Savings & Loan became a symbol of the nation’s savings and loan debacle. No hearing date has been scheduled. Keating remains in state prison and is scheduled to serve a federal sentence after his state term is completed. Keating was convicted of 17 state counts for presiding over the sale of junk bonds in Lincoln’s parent company, American Continental Corp.
