* I take exception to United Teachers-Los Angeles President Helen Bernstein’s comments (Sept. 8) comparing emergency-credentialed teachers to emergency-credentialed surgeons. There is no comparison. Contrary to what the educational Establishment would have you believe, if you care about kids, can communicate with them and know your subject, you’ll do just fine and so will they. One doesn’t need years of education classes to be a good teacher.
