COLLEGE ROUNDUP : UCI Conference Volleyball Streak at Three

Popi Edwards had 24 kills and 14 digs to help UC Irvine to a five-game victory over Utah State Wednesday, the Anteaters’ third consecutive Big West Conference women’s volleyball victory.
Irvine tied a school record with its 15-6, 13-15, 5-15, 15-10, 15-8 victory. The Anteaters also won three consecutive conference games in 1988. Stacy Mitchell had 22 kills and 20 digs for Irvine (7-4, 3-1 in conference). Utah State is 3-11, 1-3.
In nonconference women’s soccer:
UC San Diego 2, Cal State Fullerton 1 (OT)--UC San Diego scored twice in the second overtime period at La Jolla. Jennifer Patterson gave the Titans (1-4-1) a 1-0 lead early in the first overtime at the 96th minute.
Brandie Hayungs, a graduate of Los Alamitos High, scored on an assist by Carin Pugh in the 105th minute. Pugh scored the winner three minutes later.
UC San Diego is 3-0-1.
In nonconference men’s soccer:
Southern California College 3, Cal Baptist 2 (OT)--Nguyen Tran scored with four minutes left in the second overtime period for the visiting Vanguards (3-4, 2-0). Tran’s goal came on a great individual effort. He lost the ball and regained it twice and then broke through two tackle attempts to score from about 25 yards.
Hector Perez, a Santa Ana High graduate, scored two goals for the Vanguards, including one that tied the score, 2-2, with 15 minutes left in regulation. Cal Baptist is 4-3-1, 0-1-1.
In Mountain Pacific Sports Federation water polo:
UC Irvine 12, CS Long Beach 3--The Anteaters shut out the 49ers in the first and third quarters at Heritage Park. Marc Hunt paced Irvine (5-3, 1-1) by scoring two two-point goals.
