OXNARD : Bicycle Stolen After Hit-Run Accident

An Oxnard cyclist had his custom racing bike stolen within minutes after being struck by a hit-and-run driver as he coasted into the last leg of a 40-mile workout.

Trevor Meyring, 19, who was treated for asphalt burns and a cut on his right ear, hopes to find witnesses to the accident who can provide information about his stolen bike.

The incident occurred just after 8 p.m. Thursday on East 5th Street in Oxnard, east of Del Norte Boulevard, near the Chase Bros. Dairy. Meyring was wearing a fluorescent-green jersey with a large strawberry on it.

Meyring’s bike, which he assembled over the past three years, is decorated with red, yellow and green flames against a black background.

Meyring’s mother, Linda, said her son had put several thousand dollars into building the bike with specialized parts.

“He worked three years at a bike shop building this bike,” she said. “It was totally custom.”

Police are investigating the accident as a hit-and-run, but they have no suspects.
