A gunshot was fired at a police officer who was chasing a man through a house during a drug raid Thursday, but authorities said he was not hit.
A team of 20 officers were conducting a manhunt for the gunman, who escaped through a window, said Lt. Jeff Roop.
Police were searching for a 35-year-old man to question him about the shooting, Roop said.
Police found 3.5 grams of methamphetamine and 10 doses of LSD at a home in the 200 block of South Pine Street during the raid and took five people into custody, Roop said. The five are being held on suspicion of possession of narcotics for sale.
In custody at the Fullerton Jail were Henry Jake Bresyn, 34; Sean C. Prewitt, 18; Laura W. Carroll, 32; Timothy S. Hutchins, 28; and Kevin D. Patch, 24. All are Fullerton residents.
Officers arrived at the house with a search warrant a little after 8 p.m., Roop said. They took five people into custody without incident, but a sixth person fled into a back bedroom and slammed the door on his pursuers, Roop said.
A narcotics detective ran to the bedroom door and “was about to force the door open when the shot came through it,” Roop said.
A .25-caliber semiautomatic handgun was found in the bedroom. All the officers retreated and called in a SWAT team. The gunman fled through a window before the SWAT team could secure the area, Roop said.
Roop said Fullerton officers come under weapons fire about once a year.
