Odetics Security Camera: Odetics Inc. said Wednesday it has created a security camera system that can transmit video images quickly through standard telephone lines.

The FasTras2000 system, introduced at a security-industry trade show in Washington, is expected to sell for less than $5,000 and will be available at the end of the year, said Joel Slutzky, chief executive of Odetics.

The Anaheim-based company, which makes a wide variety of high-tech equipment ranging from robots to computer storage devices, sells time-lapse video recorders and closed-circuit video equipment for the security market.

Slutzky said the system does not require a personal computer and can improve surveillance at high-security places such as museums, where a camera can capture images of a crime in progress.

Competing systems sell for more than twice the price, he said.
