If Mike Moore had pitched a no-hitter Monday night against the Oakland Athletics, he might have smiled.

Instead, Moore pitched his second one-hitter in a month and stayed his usual placid self after the Detroit Tigers’ 9-0 victory over his former teammates.

“I had really good stuff, but I wasn’t baffling them with every pitch,” Moore said. “I made some bad pitches, but they lined them right at someone.”

Moore (10-6), who pitched a one-hitter against Kansas City on July 25, did not give up a hit until the sixth inning on the way to his fifth victory in six decisions. He struck out four and walked none.

Moore retired the first 16 batters before Scott Lydy lined a clean single to left field with one out in the sixth. After Lydy’s single, Moore retired 11 in a row.
