Bullet Hits Woman in the Leg at Busy Street Corner
COSTA MESA — A 27-year-old woman waiting to cross the busy Harbor Boulevard-Wilson St. intersection Saturday night was struck in the right leg by a bullet, police reported.
Danette Renay King of Huntington Beach saw or heard nothing unusual before being shot, said Sgt. Dale Birney.
Police do not believe the incident was gang related and said the injury may have been caused by a stray bullet not intentionally fired at anyone.
King was standing with a friend at the southwest corner of the Harbor-Wilson intersection about 8 p.m., waiting for the light to change, when she “felt a sharp pain in her right knee,” police said.
Her friend, who was not identified, drove her to Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, where she was treated, Birney said.
Traffic was normal on Harbor Boulevard at the time of the shooting and there are no indications that the incident was a drive-by shooting, police said.
