Voice Powered Reports $4.9-Million Loss in Quarter
Voice Powered Technology International Inc., a Canoga Park company that sells remote-controlled VCR programmers that respond to voice commands, reported a $4.9 million loss for its second quarter ended June 30.
A year before, Voice Powered lost $1.25 million. The company’s sales in the latest quarter totaled $4.81 million; there is no year-earlier sales figure because Voice Powered did not begin marketing its VCR voice programmer until July, 1992.
Included in the latest quarter’s results was a $2.6 million reserve for restructuring costs associated with the company’s decision to shift from solely direct marketing to a more retail-oriented distribution strategy.
Voice Powered’s six month loss was $7.44 million, on $9.26 million in sales. It lost $2.2 million in the same period in 1992.
