The High Cost of L.A.’s Trash Recycling Program
* I’m not an accountant, but computing from the figures given in a recent “Street Beat†column:
Los Angeles’ income from recycling is $45,000 a month; 200 recycling trucks at $70,000 apiece and more than 700,000 bins at $3.50 will cost (by 1995) $16,450,000.
I figure those two costs (not counting labor) will be paid off in 30 years. Will the trucks and bins last that long?
