New UC Campus
In response to “UC May Revive Plans for Campus in Central California” (July 16) and “UC Will Resume Site Search for a San Joaquin Campus” (July 17), regarding the UC system building a new (10th) campus:
I cannot believe that all of a sudden the University of California system has “found” $1.5 million to fund an environmental impact report after UC officials have already spent $4 million searching for a site! It’s ludicrous in this depression to even think about spending on unnecessary projects. The students that a new campus would serve can travel to the nearest campus; plus the fact that most students want to live away from home when going to college. The UC system is predicated upon wasting taxpayer dollars! It’s not essential to have another campus! We can use all those dollars to better educate and augment our local school systems!
I also protest the fact that a person from out of state pays non-resident fees for the first year and then is considered a resident and pays the much-lower fees of a resident.
