Suspect in Wynn Kidnaping Delays Extradition to Las Vegas
A former Newport Beach health club manager charged with extortion in the ransom kidnaping of Las Vegas gambling mogul Stephen A. Wynn’s daughter delayed extradition by at least a week Thursday by insisting that Las Vegas authorities come to Los Angeles to identify him.
Ray Marion Cuddy, 47, exercised his right to require federal prosecutors in Las Vegas to prove his identity in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles before he can be sent to Nevada, said Cuddy’s court-appointed attorney, Kimberly Urie.
Cuddy is a key suspect in the July 26 kidnaping of Kevin Wynn, 26, who was released unharmed within several hours after her father paid $1.45 million in $100 bills.
Cuddy was arrested Sunday in Newport Beach by federal agents as he walked into Newport Imports, a luxury car dealership, to pay off the balance on a $196,465 Ferrari sports car. Federal prosectors said Cuddy paid several previous installments on the car, using $100 bills. At the time of his arrest, he had $70,000.
Federal investigators are also looking for two Sacramento men--identified as Jacob Harold Sherwood, 21, and Anthony Paul Watkins, 20--who were allegedly involved in the kidnaping.
Kevin Wynn was abducted at gunpoint from her home in the upscale Spanish Trail neighborhood of Las Vegas. After the ransom was paid, she was found bound with surgical tape and clothing on the floor of her car at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas.
