Car Sales Rise in July: Auto makers said sales of domestically built cars and light trucks rose 9.4% in July. The annualized domestic car sales rate for the month was just under 6.7 million. Estimates had forecast a monthly rate near 7 million. Chrysler had its best July in five years with cars and trucks rising a combined 25.9%. Cars were up 23.4% and trucks were up 27.5%. GM reported a good month. Including cars it imports, its total sales were up 4.6%, with cars up 2.4% and trucks up 8.8%. Ford had a strong month on the light-truck side, which powered the No. 2 auto maker to an overall 10.3% gain. Trucks were up 24%, while car sales were down 0.2%.
