The Simi Valley Planning Commission on Wednesday postponed approving a permit to develop a community park on the former Corriganville movie ranch site at the east end of the city.

Because of time constraints and a busy agenda, the commission postponed a vote on issuing a building permit until Aug. 4.

The Rancho Simi Open Space Conservation Agency hopes to build the $4-million park on a 204-acre site near the Los Angeles County line.

Park plans include construction of a visitors center, horse stables, picnic areas, playgrounds, on-site parking, a caretaker’s residence and maintenance facilities.

Brian Gabler, an assistant to City Manager Lin Koester, said the agency wants to have the building permit in hand before applying for state and federal grants needed for construction.

“It puts us in a better position to seek state and federal money,†he said.
