Too young for sleep-away camp? There’s no reason to miss out on the fun, says the new Nickelodeon kids humor magazine.
“Sure, you might miss a giant lake to swim in, a stable full of horses, or a short-sheeted bed,” it says. “But you can make your own summer camp at home.”
Among the suggestions: Dump sand into your sheets. Don’t wash for weeks. Sew name tags into your clothes. Then lose all your underwear.
The bimonthly magazine is designed for kids aged 8 to 12 ($1.95).
According to Nickelodeon, 75 kids who linked on-line through personal computers served as advisers and critics of the magazine as it was being developed.
Cartoon characters Ren & Stimpy are featured on the cover of the “Summer Swimsuit Issue” and Clarissa of the “Clarissa Explains It All” television program explains the dynamics of a car trip.
There’s also a coast-to-coast guide of unusual tourist attractions such as Santa’s Workshop in North Pole, Colo.; a cartoon calendar for July and August, and a page from the Amazing Adventures comic book, published in 1951.
The magazine is available by subscription ($9.97 for six issues).
