And 5,700 Got a Permanent Holiday

BankAmerica Corp.’s workers had plenty to grumble about during the last year, namely because of the bank’s purchase of rival Security Pacific Corp. in 1992 and the difficult merger that followed the layoff of 5,700 Security Pacific employees.
So, to help soothe the troops, BankAmerica is giving $250 and a paid day off to most of its employees as a way of saying thanks.
There are 93,000 workers--”BankAmericans,” as the company calls them--who are eligible for the holiday and $250 (before taxes). That totals $23.3 million for the cash benefit alone.
But BankAmerica, which turned a $1.5-billion profit last year, said the offer is not being extended to senior management, which is led by Chairman Richard M. Rosenberg. He already got a $1.3-million bonus for 1992.
