Synagogue in Russia Attacked

MOSCOW — Rock-throwing vandals smashed all the front windows in Moscow’s main synagogue in what Russia’s leading rabbi called yet another incident of organized anti-Semitism.
“I don’t think it was petty hooliganism,” Russian Chief Rabbi Adolf S. Shayevich said Tuesday. He said the synagogue, surrounded by offices that were untouched, was specifically targeted in Monday’s pre-dawn attack.
It was the second time in a month that the Moscow Choral Synagogue had fallen victim to unidentified assailants. On June 12, Shayevich said, a group of young men threw bricks through two windows and painted swastikas on the walls.
Moscow police said they are tightening their surveillance of the synagogue.
