Advanced Micro Devices Profit Up 55%: The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based computer chip maker said its profit in the second quarter surged to a record $64.4 million, thanks to strong sales of non-personal computer products. It said earnings equaled 65 cents a share, compared to $41.4 million, or 43 cents a share, in the second quarter of 1992. AMD also released its version of the 486 microprocessor, a standard of the PC industry, which it priced lower than similar chips made by rival Intel Corp.
