SOUTH COUNTY : Accident Closes Ortega Highway
Ortega Highway was closed in both directions Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. after two cars collided, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Three people were injured, two seriously, but their names and conditions were not available by late Wednesday night, Officer Marti Hoover said.
The accident site was about 15 miles east of the Santa Ana Freeway.
The site has been notorious for years and is referred to by the CHP as “Ricochet Alley.†It has a sheer canyon wall on one side and a 200-foot ravine on the other. That stretch of the highway last year alone had 87 accidents.
